FAQs - Fire safety assessor

Will this change affect me?

If you are required to submit an AFSS for any of your properties, then YES!

How will I know if the contractor I have engaged is an FSA?

Their name will appear on the register.

The interim register is published here. You should check this now for the names of your contractors.

What if a contractor I have engaged is not accredited?

You either need to switch to an accredited contractor, or insist that your existing contractor becomes accredited.

Non-accredited contractors cannot endorse fire safety measures on the AFSS.

When will this change come in?

We’re not exactly sure….

FSA candidates are currently sitting their assessments.

Once there are enough FSAs to service the buildings of NSW, the Government will turn the change on by publishing an order in the NSW Government Gazette.

At this point, the Government has said they expect this to occur sometime in January 2020:

Safety & Insurance

Relax - our safety system is
JAS/ANZ AS4801 accredited.

What is an

AFSS?

An Annual Fire Safety Statement is a document which confirms the building’s fire safety equipment is compliant and has been assessed by a qualified assessor to meet the requirements of its design.

Failure to loge by the due date can result in hefty fines.
